Drying

A spectacular sight, not very unusual in the outskirts of cities with large carpet production.

The last and finally stage before the carpet can be put up for sale is to let it sun-dry thorougly. The carpets are laid out on great areas and are dried slowly in the sun.

The reason the carpets are laid out in the sun instead of being put in a heated room is that the colours are to be stabilized. Since natural colours have been used during the manufacturing this best takes place in the sun.

All the carpets must be dried evenly so as not to risk loosing its shape.

The carpets need to dry thoroughly in order for the colours to stabilize.
